Our Nova Scotia bike tours • The Cabot Trail • Evangeline Trail • Lighthouse Route • Lunenburg Adventure • Best of the Coasts
We're not kidding when we say that one of the most brilliant ways to see Nova Scotia is from the saddle of a well-maintained bike. Here is one of the world’s last best places, filled with a gentle beauty and a quiet spirit that touches the heart easily and often. We have traveled the world, but we chose to live on Canada's east coast. We’d like to show you why. Hence our original three delightful Nova Scotia escorted bike tours following the Cabot Trail, the Evangeline Trail, and the Lighthouse Route. We've added two new tours for Nova Scotia: The Best of Both Coasts and the Lunenburg Adventure. We also offer cycling or kayaking one-and two-day adventures in Nova Scotia, and five self-guided tours, including: The Cabot Trail, The Evangeline Trail, the Best of the Fundy and Atlantic Coasts, our Lunenburg Family Adventure, and the Lighthouse Route.
With more than 5,000 kilometres of coastline, you are never far from the sea when travelling through Nova Scotia. For hearty Bluenosers, the Atlantic Ocean is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. Virtually everyone who lives here is just a stone's throw from the sea.
You'll be able to skip a few stones on the Atlantic, if you sign up with one of Pedal & Sea Adventures' Nova Scotia bicycle tours. All five of our Nova Scotia tours wind along the coast, stopping in many of the province's most picturesque towns and villages. We'll find many fantastic restaurants and country inns along the way, so the breathtaking seascapes won't be the only memories you'll keep.
The Cabot Trail is one of the worlds most beautiful rides, named after the famous explorer John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto, who sailed under an English flag). The trail winds through glorious valleys and along an expansive coast as it traverses the Cape Breton Highlands. Pods of whales can be seen just off the coast, while bald eagles soar the breezes. When you visit the Highlands, you'll feel that everything is right, that this place is exactly as it was meant to be! (Self-guided info here).
Our Best of Both Coasts tour will have you cycling both the Lighthouse Route along Nova Scotia’s South Shore, and the Evangeline Trail which runs parallel to the incomparable Bay of Fundy. You'll be exploring one of North America's oldest regions, and one of the most beautiful places in Canada. We know that you'll love it. (Self-Guided option.)
Settled mainly by Swiss and German immigrants in 1753, Lunenburg has become one of Nova Scotia's most historic and beautiful towns, and that's why it's the focal point of our new Lunenburg Adventure. The homes and buildings here date back to 1760, and the streets still adhere to the original town plan of 1753. No wonder Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunenburg's colourful waterfront, narrow streets, and captivating architecture all work to preserve history and the town's seafaring heritage. (Self-Guided Lunenburg Adventure).
The Evangeline Trail follows the Bay of Fundys coastline from Annapolis Royal to Wolfville, two of Nova Scotia's loveliest towns. Its a ride back in time to the earliest days of North American history, as this area was first colonized by French settlers in 1604. The landscape remembers, and we'll gain a deeper appreciation for early Canadian history as we traverse the Evangeline Trail. (Self-guided info here).
The Lighthouse Route hugs Nova Scotia's South Shore from historic Halifax to the White Point. Many quaint fishing villages adorn the coast and, amusingly, their colorful fishing boats will recall their brightly painted old homes. This route passes through the beautiful, historic towns of Mahone Bay, Chester, Lunenburg, & Shelburne, and your senses might need reminding that it really is the 21st century. More than twenty lighthouses line this route, including Peggy's Cove - third on the list of Canada's most popular tourist destinations. (Self-guided info here).
For the 2008 season, Pedal & Sea Adventures will also be offering one- and two-day cycling or kayaking day tours on Nova Scotia's South Shore.
